Maine moose sighting…
…over on Cute Overload! Behold!
I’m glad that there are other people out there who find moose to be as cute as I do!
“Spirit of America”…
…will be at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH on Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8. Tickets are FREE.
From their website:
Spirit of America is performed by more than 300 Soldiers from the United States Army Military District of Washington. This breathtaking show reviews the history of military service given to the nation through drama, musical entertainment, historical reenactments and narration. Active duty Soldiers, not actors, perform the show.
It is the inspiring story of Soldiers past and present, generations of men and women who, for more than 230 years, in times of war and peace, have left families and friends behind to serve their country as Soldiers in the United States Army.
These historical accounts, taken directly from Soldiers’ letters and diaries are a powerful drama designed to entertain while encouraging all citizens to think about how history relates to them today. Since 1975, Spirit of America has presented the history and development of the U.S. Army from its very origins through the wars, conflicts and missions that have molded the Army and the nation. Spirit of America performances are open to the general public and admission is FREE, however, a ticket is needed to attend.
To get your tickets, please visit the Verizon Wireless Arena box office, download this .pdf order form and mail, or bite the bullet and pay a stupid fee by ordering online or by telephone (603-868-7300) at Ticketmaster.. Friday performances will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Large groups are welcome; please call the box office at 603- 644-5000 x6008.
So, if you’re looking for something free to do, you might want to check this out!
Old Sturbridge Village
Mike and I are members of Old Sturbridge Village. This is a “living history” museum…old houses, costumed interpreters, and all that sort of thing. The Village shows what life was like in New England back in the 1830′s. Every so often, I will talk about what’s going on out there.
If you’re looking for something different to do over Labor Day weekend, why not check out “Family Fun Days” at the Village? From their website:
This new event at Old Sturbridge Village features games and crafts for the entire family during Labor Day Weekend. Events scheduled throughout this weekend include ox cart rides, learning a dance with the Old Sturbridge Village dancers, hoop relay races on the common, family plowing with Village oxen, a game of tug-o-war so large that the whole family can test their strength and so much more!
Hands on activities include making your family tree, sewing a seed bag, and shelling corn. The Craft Center will be open for fee-based activities, the boats will be running, and the horse drawn carryall will be giving rides all weekend. Join Old Sturbridge Village for the last “Hurrah†of summer!
Family Fun Days will run from Saturday, September 1 through Monday, September 3. Please visit http://osv.org for more information and directions to the Village.
If you go, and enjoy yourself, please consider purchasing a membership. Your admission ticket fee can be applied to the cost of your membership, if you do it within 30 days. This is an excellent value…considering that it costs $20.00 for one adult admission. A membership costs $80/year, so if Mike and I went to OSV twice in one year, that pays for it right there. Of course, we go more often than that! more »
It’s gone
I posted a couple of weeks ago about the New England TV News Blog. Well, I just went to visit it today, and it’s GONE! There’s a message that says that the authors have deleted it.
That’s too bad…I really liked it. Hopefully, I can find some other blog like it somewhere!
For Massachusetts residents…IMPORTANT!
This has been cross-posted on my cats’ blog. But it needs to be here, too.
You may be familiar with an organization called Grey2K USA. Their goal is to end the cruelty of greyhound racing. When I first learned of this group, and saw how horribly these racing dogs are treated, I had to do what I could to help spread the word, to help end dog racing.
The original intent of this group was to ban dog racing in Massachusetts. They had a ballot question about this issue, which sadly, was defeated. But Grey2K has not stopped, in fact, they have since expanded to being greyhound advocates nationwide.
There are currently TWO dog tracks in Massachusetts…the one down in Raynhan, and Wonderland in Revere. Now, I have never been to a dog track, but I’ve talked to people who’ve been to Wonderland. They say that the place is run down and skeevy, and most of the people who hang out there are skeevy old guys. Greyhound racing is definitely a dying industry, and I think we just need to let it die, already.
However, there’s been a lot of talk around here about allowing the track owners to add slot machines, to boost their dying businesses. WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN! That is why Grey2K wants to urge all Massachustts residents to call Governor Deval Patrick on Thursday, to tell him that we are opposed to this.
ACTION ALERT – August 7, 2007
