A happy foreclosure story!

Revere Dog Track Owes Big Bucks, Faces Foreclosure

GOOD! It’s high time that these tracks shut down, given the cruel way that they are known to treat these dogs. You can learn more by visiting the Grey2KUSA website.

It’s a dying industry, has been for years now. Wonderland is obviously not doing well at all, not if they can’t even afford to pay their taxes.

Also, dog racing may well be outlawed in Massachusetts come November, if the ballot question passes this time around. It got voted down several years ago, but I think it’ll be back on the ballot this year. This law would phase out greyhound racing by 2010.

So the owners of Wonderland may as well just pack their luggage and get out now, no sense in staying open given all that is happening. There are other, better ways to make a living, that don’t involve animal cruelty.

Yep, we are going!

To Manchester for the weekend, for not one but TWO Fisher Cats games! I’m letting the replacement Nashua Pride tickets go, because I really wanna be in Manchester and stay at that hotel with a view of the ballpark. And now, we shall.

I have been going through a lot of hell lately…anxiety attacks, hot flashes, acne breakouts, etc…that I can really use a little getaway.  I am greatly looking forward to it!

A hotel room with a view of a beautiful ballpark cures most any ill for me! :D

Can we afford it?

I posted on my baseball blog earlier abut the possibility of another weekend stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, in Manchester, MA. The Nashua Pride game got rained out, and I exchanged the tix for the Saturday night game next week. It’s a night game, going later because they will be having fireworks. Also, we have tix to a New Hampshire Fisher Cats game the next day. Would it be worth it to stay over to avoid a long drive home, and them back again?

Not financially, of course, as our car gets 30 MPG. I’m thinking more of rest and relaxation, less stress, and all of that. And Mike needs to go to The Boring Business Meeting From Hell Down In Rhode Island on the Monday after, so maybe a weekend getaway before that would be good.

We’ll probably have to put it on the Visa, but I’d like to look into balance transfers and all, to make what we owe be, well…less! If we must use the card, at least we could try to make it less expensive, right?

We shall see! :D

Stupid Messychusetts law?

I’m not sure. I was in the local Stop & Schlop the other day, the one that has a full license to sell booze. We hardly every buy it there these days, because try finding a cashier older than 15-16, who can legally ring it up. I swear, why do they even bother selling alcohol, if they can’t be aresed to hire cashiers who are old enough to ring it up? This is why we go to Kappy’s.

Anyhoo, at the Stop & Schlop, there was a sign at the checkout that said that in order to buy alcohol, the ONLY ID they would accept would be one issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I am assuming that perhaps they would accept a Federal ID, such as a valid passport or military ID, but the sign did not say. And not everybody HAS a passport or military ID, I know that I don’t!

I think that this is extremely stupid. It sounds like it’s a state law, rather than just a Stop & Shop rule, which makes it all the more stupid.

I mean, say you are coming from another state to attend a Red Sox game, and you want one of their overpriced beers. But if you flash a license from Maine, New Hampshire, or, DOG forbid, New York, they can refuse to serve you? Even if the ID is real, and you are legally old enough to have a beer? How stupid can they get here?

Now, I know that many people have gotten good at making fake IDs to use in other states. But I also know that they make electronics that can easily detect said fake IDs. Why not use those, rather than alienate a lot of potential customers?

Another group of people that may have problems with this are people who vacation at places like the Cape. So they go into the local packy to buy some beer, and the cashier can’t sell it to them because their license is from out of state? That is insane. I know that when we go up to Maine and New Hampshire for trips, and we buy beer there, we have no trouble. Okay, so we’re old and stores rarely card us any longer. But if you’re young, or you just look young, you are screwed if you want to buy booze in MA and come from out of state.

But I wonder what they do about the ballpark thing. Every single ballpark I have ever been to in my entire life is required to card ANYONE who buys a beer, even if they look 80 years old. We live in MA, have MA licenses, and when we go to New Hampshire Fisher Cats or Portland Sea Dogs games, we can show our out of state IDs to buy beer, no problem. Same in Rhode Island, when we attend a PawSox game. My conclusion here is that it is Messychusetts who has the stupid laws, and most other states know better.

I mean, can you imagine if Maine passed such a silly law?  Then we’d not be able to attend the Maine Brewers Festival, because our IDs were not issued by the state o’ Maine.  Now that would SERIOUSLY piss me off!

So…when we DO move out of this state, we must remember not to try to buy beer here again. But I doubt that will be a problem, we’ll probably stop going to ball games here, anyway.  We’ll just stick to those in NH and Maine by that time!

Well, it is official…

…we finally have our tickets to the Maine Brewers Festival. Okay, so we don’t have them in hand yet, but I was able to order them to be sent to us.

We opted to NOT go to the Brewers Dinner thingy. That would have cost us an extra $80 a pop, and we were not sure if it would be worth it or not. Maybe the time with the brewers might have been worth it, but we might not have liked the food. After all, it’s gonna be a banquet thing at a chain hotel, and I’ve not had good experiences with those in the past. I did talk to Mike first, and we decided that we’ll just go to Fore Street on Halloween night. It will not only be cheaper than the beer dinner, but it will probably have better food.

So at least we won’t have to look at people going to these events, wearing sexy costumes and such, for Halloween. People who dine at Fore Street tend to dress a bit more conservative than that, and that’s how we like it.

I’m just happy that it’s all a done deal now! :D
