Attention Malden Residents!
I know that this is an off-year election, that there is nothing much going on but local stuff. To be honest with you, I normally don’t bother to vote in these very local races, usually the candidates are running unopposed, or I don’t know enough about them to care.
Well, this year is different. Thanks to a petition that was started last year by a grassroots group called Malden Taxpayers For Accountability, the ridiculous Pay As You Throw program has a chance of being repealed. They got enough signatures on their petition for this to be put up for a public vote, as a ballot question. So, if you are sick of having to pay $1-2 apiece for crappy-quality trash bags, tired of paying extra for what our tax dollars should already be covering, you owe it to yourself and the rest of us to go out and vote YES on Question 1 this coming Tuesday.
While you’re at the polls, also be sure to vote against any incumbents who voted in favor of this stupid tax in the first place. As far as I’m concerned, the only person worth voting for is David D’Arcangelo, who is running for City Councilor-At-Large. According to his campaign literature, he “is the only candidate that has pledged to repeal the Pay As You Throw trash bag fee/tax.”
Those who are in favor of this tax, including Mayor Howard, are not in touch with their constituents at all. These are wealthy people, who drive fancy cars and can afford all sorts of Mopar parts for them. They are completely out of touch with the fact that many Malden residents are elderly and living on fixed incomes. Many others are unemployed or under-employed, and buying these pricey bags makes for a true financial hardship.
So, PLEASE…if you live in Malden, and are a registered voter, vote YES on Question One! Thanks!
