Boston Globe endorses Alan Khazei for U.S. Senate
This is a Very Big Deal, if the Globe endorses someone, that means that many undecided voters may well go with that candidate. Read the Globe’s endorsement here.
I am very excited about this, because we here at Six Great States also endorse Alan Khazei. I admit, after Senator Kennedy passed away, and the special election to fill his seat was shaping up, I was not sure which way I was going to vote. For reasons I won’t go into here, right now, I do not like Martha Coakley. Steve Pagliuca seems okay, but I was sort of leaning towards Mike Capuano. Alan Khazei, we’d heard little about, except that he was the guy who founded City Year. Definitely the underdog, running against a pair of professional politician, and some rich dude, whose big claim to fame is being part owner of the Boston Celtics.
But Alan and his campaign staff have been really good at using social media to get attention. They actually followed me on Twitter. Before I followed back, I took the time to check out Khazei’s website, and compared his stand on the issues with the other three candidates. I liked what I saw! But how much of it would I have seen, if not for his good use of social media like Twitter and Facebook? The beauty of social media is that it is free, and has the ability to reach many thousands of people! Very important with a grassroots campaign, where there isn’t much money.
Thanks in huge part to social media, Khazei is gaining momentum. But let’s not pass around the Davidoff cigars just yet…the election is just over a week away, and there is still a lot to be done.
Finally, here is Alan Khazei’s latest TV ad. It is clever and funny, and oh, so true! Enjoy, and if you are in Massachusetts, don’t forget to vote on December 8. As I always say, if you don’t vote then you forfeit your bitching rights, if you don’t like who wins!
