Hampton Inn, Mystic, CT

I had already posted about booking a trip to Mystic, CT this spring, for Mike’s birthday.  But I got a serious case of cabin fever, so I booked a last-minute trip for this just-past weekend.  I booked the room at the same hotel I booked for the spring, the Mystic Hampton Inn.  This picture is an actual pic of the place, not a generic shot.

We stayed for two nights, and had no big problems.  The place is just off I-95 in Mystic.  It’s back off the main road, but there is a well-lit roadside sign, that made it easy to find in the dark.  It’s very convenient to all of the big attractions in Mystic, including the Mystic Seaport Museum and the Mystic Aquarium.  There also also several nice restaurants nearby, including a few in walking distance.

The room was nice, not as well-appointed as those of the Hilton Garden Inn (Hampton is also owned by Hilton).  The room had no refrigerator or microwave, but we expected that.  We brought our mini-fridge to keep our food and beer cold, and there’s a microwave in the breakfast area in the lobby if you need to reheat anything.  There is also something called the Suite Shop, which offers snacks, frozen microwaveable dinners, etc.

But there still was enough amenties in the room to keep us happy.  King bed was nice and comfy.  Free high-speed internet access worked great.  The TV (flat panel HDTV) worked and the clicker was NOT broken.  There was also a coffeemaker with a selection of coffees and teas, a hair dryer, and an ironing board and iron, for those who actually bother to iron stuff.  No bathtub, but a deluxe-sized shower stall, which provided a steady stream of hot water.  They either don’t have hard water there, or they had a water softener, as I didn’t have trouble rinsing the shampoo/conditioner out of my hair, as I have in some places that have hard water.

There is a complimentary breakfast downstairs.  I didn’t have any, but Mike did, and he wasn’t impressed.  They had sausage and eggs, he said, but the sausage wasn’t that great, and he thinks the eggs were reconstituted powdered ones.  On Sunday, they had omelettes, a “western omelette” that was  eggs wrapped around what Mike said was Velveeta “cheese”.  He ate it, said it was all edible.  It’s kind of hard to complain abut something that they aren’t charging extra for, though.

If you are a breakfast junkie, I hear that the nearby Equinox Diner is supposed to be good.  Maybe next time we’ll try it, or maybe not.  I absolutely HATE going out for breakfast, especially on weekends.  That always seems to be the time when the families with the most annoying crack-monkey kids come out.  I can’t deal with that crap in the A.M.  Maybe the Equinox has take-out, that’s probably the only way I’ll try the breakfast food there.  I prefer to eat breakfast in peace and quiet.

Housekeeping respects the DO NOT DISTURB sign.  If you are only staying for a couple of nights, and are willing to reuse towels and not have sheets changed, they won’t come in at all if you don’t want them to..  We don’t use a fresh towel every day at home, nor do we change the sheets every night, so why would we need that in a hotel?

All in all, the Mystic Hampton Inn is a decent place to stay, and we look forward to visiting again in May!
